Opening weekend of the Connecticut Renaissance Fair, also Labor Day weekend in the States, we found ourselves with a free afternoon and my desire for a particular bodice from a particular vendor opening at the faire. I threw together this cute Renaissance shopping outfit from pieces already sewn to peruse the marketplace.
Under and over-dress hand-sewn by me. The hat was purchased and the basket free from a neighbor’s curb. The under-dress is a lightweight linen and the overdress an upholstery cotton-poly blend. We were only planning to stay for a few hours at the end of the day to shop, so I was going for comfort, convenience, and mobility. Also featured is my beautiful yard and garden which has been so productive this year. We are flush with tomatoes, beans, and kale despite intentionally scaling back a bit this year. Seems plants really do fill the space they’re given. This was also my first year growing squash, as an experiment, with no attention paid to pruning or weeding, and I’ve harvested two delicious white bush scalloped specimens, not always while wearing renaissance garb.
Opening weekend of the faire typically has the best selection of goods, but the weekend was busy and by Monday some vendors already needed a restock. The bodice I was looking for was not available in an acceptable color scheme but I’m very hopeful that the vendor is going to set aside my request for my return visit.
