Continuing the discussion on new items I made for Jake ahead of the 2023 Connecticut Renaissance Faire, is this very large canvas and remnant belt-pouch. Purely a bonus project, for my own decompression between more strenuous sewing, I pieced this pouch together with remnants of fabric from projects current and past.
The base black canvas was free from a neighbor. The sides are remnants from our house banner. The pockets are from the same fabric as my viking apron. The decorative bits and the top flap are from Jake’s blue hood and vest brocade.
I made this pouch so large so that it could accommodate two large Nalgene bottles. To support that kind of weight, the belt loop runs wider than the width of the pouch and is made from a double-layer of canvas. There is an elastic inside to keep a water-bottle up-right, and a bonus pocket in there for a cellphone.
On the front there’s another pocket the right size for a phone or a wallet. The top is held closed by two vintage silver coat of arms buttons. It’s bigger than what Jake may have wanted, but I wasn’t taking requests on this one. I was making whatever came together organically from the scraps on-hand.
