The bridal jacket is finished! For now… I started this project well over a year ago when I decided that having a jacket option for an October wedding would be a safe plan. I wanted to have the jacket finished over New Years, but supply-chain issues made getting fabric and especially fur (at a reasonable price and in a reasonable timeframe) impossible.
After my fur was back-ordered and delayed four or five times, I cancelled my order and scaled back my plans to use only fur that I had on hand. I modified a pattern to construct most of the jacket, but the drafted the fur cuffs and collar myself.
The biggest reason that I wanted to finish the jacket in winter is that I find it easier to assess how practical a garment is when testing it in a similar environment. My plan was never to determine whether the jacket is warm enough in July, but here we are; sure feels warm.
If I were to make additional edits to the jacket, it might be to the front closures. I’ve chosen silver snaps for now, but am open to the idea of adding a whimsical clasp at the waist, or neck, or both. But that depends entirely on what I come across with no additional effort.
Already seven months behind schedule, I don’t have time to hunt for and suffer delays on accessories and finishes here. There are other projects that need my attention now. That being said, I am happy with how the jacket came out. It fits well, is comfortable (except that it’s July), and goes with my dress. Finally finishing the jacket has been an exercise in adapting my vision to changing conditions. Undoubtedly useful practice…
