Our neighbors are moving and sold us two solid-pine bookshelves for the dining room. This room has always echoed, and the addition of some new many-sided furniture has helped tremendously. The plan was to paint the shelves white to match the baseboards, so last weekend as temperatures warmed up I set about the task.
First, Jake moved the shelve to to the garage for me and set them up for painting. I filled a few holes and scratches and sanded.
Next came a stain-blocker primer, in white. Two coats on the darker ply-backing.
Finally, up to three coats of glossy paint. I did as much as I could with a foam roller so that it went on more evenly.
After two days painting for over six hours each, I was exhausted, sore, and out of paint. The paint takes 30 days to cure, so the shelves will go back to the dining room with nothing to hold until the end of the month.
