Commission alert! Last year (? maybe, what is time?) I was commissioned to sew a custom A/C cover to keep the draft out of a mountain resort condo unit with a permanent A/C unit installed. I now have photos back of the cover in it’s new home.
The cover is made of two layers. The inner, is a space-age thermo-vinyl that does the bulk of the insulating. It’s very rigid and was an adventure to force through my Jenome machine. Two people required.
The outer-layer is a printed cotton with a cute ski motif. Why custom? This A/C unit isn’t a rectangle….it’s…I don’t know what to call it but is has a lot of sides and angles that needed to be accommodated for effective insulating. Fortunately the measurements I received were sound, and the cover fit snug! Making a pattern for this with seam allowances was more geometry than I’ve done in years.
The first two images are of the unwieldy cover draped on my bannister, while the later two are of the cover placed over the A/C, surrounded by new, also custom, shelving. The shelves hide the complicated bits.
