Happy Winter Solstice. The changing of the year is a wonderful time for reflection. Especially useful in this prolonged time of great uncertainty, change, and fear. I’ve been reading a lot more than I’ve been making, and that’s been a part of my personal reflection. Spending time with topics that others have spent a lot of time researching, thinking about, and making sense of. I hope these reflections and any accompanying small comforts will carry me through the new year with perspective and orderly priorities.
Speaking of priorities, the New Year is also traditionally a time for family. Earlier this fall my little family did a photoshoot at Purgatory Chasm, a gash in the landscape so unusual to the area that it’s become a bit of an attraction. The photos are courtesy of Red Letter Photography, who will be photographing our wedding reception in 2022. I think they did a fantastic job, and I’m very happy with this documentation of our fuzzy household enjoying the beloved forest and rock.
The dogs have grown to love each other so much, and while Nimbus (in white) has had more than his share of medical challenges, he is a very happy and now healthy growing boy. I think that we will look back on these photos and marvel at how small he is in them, and how all of our faces and colors will change with time. It’s a strange time to be alive, but a great time to be married and to be together with my husband Jake.
Thanks for sticking with me in 2021. This holiday season I wish you relief from expectations. No one knows what 2022 will look like, so maybe it’s best to take things as they come. Don’t feel overburdened by goals. It’s ok to change and to rest, so that we can continue to adapt to whatever 2022 has in store for us.
