Small, local, outdoors; our second Renaissance faire of 2021. Still deeply impacted by the pandemic, but fun and comforting nonetheless. Garb made by me, but nothing specifically made for this event.
It was a hot one. I don’t know why more fair don’t run in November…beat the snow, but pass over the heat. Breathable base-layers were essential, as were our packed-in-water bottles and paper-fans. I really loved this leather hat made by one of the artisans onsite, but this model was only for display. The fair was not very crowded, a benefit to attending on Sunday, so we were able to secure libations without long lines.
In other news I’m learning to crochet again. I’ve tried to learn crochet and knitting in the past, but I have little talent for it. This time crochet is going a little better, as you can see, I made the dog a bracelet as practice. I’m currently working on a produce bag made from some very old yarn before moving onto more serious projects.
The garden and the CSA are going very well. We have more vegetables than we know what to do with, but the weekly challenge of what to cook with all these exotic greens is mildly thrilling. I feel a positive shift in body and spirit these past months, eating truckloads of the freshest organic vegetables. I’m sure all the vitamin D helps as well. Last weekend Jake, Tovi, and I drove out to the rural blueberry patch to pick berries to last the rest of the year. I’ve frozen most of them, baked one batch of cookies, and will be making a pie this weekend. Food really is one of the best parts of being alive.
