Those of you that follow this blog regularly may have noticed that I’ve been taking a break from posting. I’m taking some time to reconnect with myself while the pandemic slowly loosens its grip (on the US anyway), and society prepares for a monumental shift. I’ve mostly been spending my leisure hours in the garden and reading. I’m reading books of poetry, love, ritual, and our common human condition. Every now and again I enjoy pausing to immerse myself in someone else’s art, whose medium for which I have no particular talent. The best thing about art as a consumer, is it begs you to stop and pay attention.
In the garden the flowers are blooming, and we’ve transformed a patch of weeds and construction debris on the edge of our property into a new ornamental planting bed, graced with some edible berries, lavender, and sunflowers. Before and after below. The edibles won’t be visible for several months.
The vegetable and herb garden is brimming with pepper and tomato plants, and the lettuce and giant mustard is almost ready for harvest. I’m really proud of the progress we’ve made in the yard over the years. It’s a very tranquil place to spend an afternoon, and has been a blessing all pandemic long. I like to do yoga on the patio when the weather is warm and the wind is soft.
If you have time for a little deep reading, I’ve created a gallery below of poems and passages I’ve saved recently. Mostly for my own quick reference, but you can enjoy them too.
