Plague Faire is soon upon us after a solitary Samhain (sow-win). Taking every precaution, the plague can be leveraged for levity this spooky season. To get myself into the Holiday spirit, I’ve finally decided to tackle the obvious; a plague-doctor covid mask.
The beak came out bigger than I expected on my face: the pattern didn’t look all that long. I was going for something reasonably small as to be self-supporting in pleather, and this worked out unexpectedly well. Pleather is not breathable, so I knew I could only use it sparingly, offering even less support to odd shapes.
The lining and interfacing layers are made of cotton and brocade for breathability and support. The shell is a pleather upper and polyester lower. Even with half the mask in permeable material, it was still a little hard to breath in the test fit. So I decided to cut vents into the pleather and back them with black cotton.
Overall, I’m pleased with the design and fit. Another dent made in the old fabric stash, and a new accessory to match my fair garb. Up next is a bearded plague doctor covid mask for Jake.
