Back with more sewing for the highly anticipated Plague Fair 2020. I’ve finished four generic banners and hung them on dowel and twine. Jake notched the dowels for me so that the string has a nice channel to sit in.
I’ve also completed another set of duel-sided flag garland; this time blue and red. To sew your own flag garland, you’ll want to cut out a whole bunch of identical triangles in two colors. Sew right-sides together along the top, and spread open. Surge 2 inches from the top seam on either side, then fold so that wrong-sides are together. Surge the ends together 1.5 inches short of the top to hold and finish. This leaves a channel between the two layers open at the top through which twine can be strung.
Here are the four banners laid out in my craft room before rolling for storage. I have started a bin dedicated to Plague Fair decor. In addition to sewing atmosphere, I’m also brewing spirits; I’ve started making my own mead at home. You can see my start in last week’s blog post. Should I succeed, the fair will be all the better for libations.
We lost one of our pine trees in Tropical Storm Isaias and now have what amounts to a 30-foot totem poll in the middle of our fair grounds. It will be fun to incorporate that into the fair design.
