Furthering my exploration of neutrals for spring, and practical sewing for the home, I’ve made a cloth storage basket.
Because we have a dog, we are frequently in and out of the front door. Because that dog needs various leashes and collars to go out, we tend to leave that stuff by the front door. Because we have a robot vacuum that will eat leashes, we can’t leave that stuff on the floor, so it usually is piled onto the stairs by the front door. Robots can’t go up stairs. This pile of leashes and collars on the stairs is convenient, but not tidy.
I have fixed this. This basket incorporates everything keeping me tethered to sanity this quarantine; natural canvas shell, utilitarian water-resistant lining that matches my first floor walls, made from rectangles. There is nothing more satisfying than patterning an entire project from rectangles, let me tell you again.
Custom made to exactly fit my stair run. I added a little handle to the back so that it could be hung, if for some reason I ever wanted to do that. Utility. Plus a little embroidered set of doggie ears, I think, adds whimsy, uses another neutral color, and illustrates the intention for the basket.
Yup, I’m very happy with my stairs basket, and Tovi seems to like it ok too.
