Last bustle in this fabric, I promise!! I was going to be all done, but then I had leftover fabric, and everyone had a bustle to wear over their big skirts or pants except for me. So I just had to whip myself up a very simple bustle out of a single rectangle of fabric leftover from this lengthy dance-wear project.
As those of you who follow this blog know, the dance troupe which I am I member of, the Whip City Witches, had choreographed and just begun performing an elaborate Celtic-fusion number right before the country shut down. This dance utilizes matching tartan garments, several of which I was commissioned to sew for troupe members, and those pieces have been featured heavily on this blog in last 2 months. A quick look back over my previous posts will reveal a saturation of this tartan pattern after the troupe bought 30 yards of fabric.
Not one to let any fabric to go waste, I resolved to use every available inch of fabric allotted to me by sewing this simple bustle from two rectangles. Serged and hemmed, gathered and tucked, until it formed a very simple butt-embellishment. The addition of two utility lobster clasps, one shown and one hidden, expands the possibilities for this bustle’s use in the future.
