My female dog has a beard and a mustache, so naturally she is constantly being misgendered. Not that I think she minds, but maybe some pretty bows will help? Buying pre-made collar sliders online is expensive. And they are so small, and use so little fabric! I’m pressed for time getting ready for a big party, but I had to take the time for a quick little remnants project like this.
The biggest challenge honestly was figuring out the best way to fashion elastic to the backs of the bow so that they can fit on any collar and over any collar clip. Copying the rough design of the store-bought ones where they glue the elastic didn’t work so well. I tried hand sewing, and they’re fine but a little floppy. The four-way-stretch-tube method is probably the best in looks and stability, but provides the least stretch.
No need to make them too perfect, though. They are for the dog after all which means they will be dragged through the mud, rubbed in the grass, and scratched with dirty feet. I only need them to look cute from a few feet away. With that in mind, I whipped these up in a few minutes just to satisfy the urge, and give the dog a few looks to choose from.
