I have too many projects in progress at once, and therefore nothing newly finished to show you. So instead, we’ll all have to settle for a quick works-in-progress post.
I am making Jake a new tunic and just finished this elaborate neckline last night. It took considerable time to make the leather tape, arrange it, and get it to lay flat. Vikings love their bling, so I wove jump rings into the mix and added a large decorative button and several pendants to further dress up this large feature. The tunic will have a cotton lining, which is already assembled, and now that the neckline is done, I can finish the shell and attach it to the lining and turn.
At the same time I’m also making myself an elvish gown to go with a long leather bodice that I purchased at the last fair. The tunic is the priority, but while I was waiting on feedback or a fitting, I couldn’t resist starting something for myself.
This one is a lot less close to completion and I have it very roughly pinned to the dress form here. The fabric is buttery and lovely and I used almost…10 or 11 yard of it I think so far because I wanted the sleeves to be very dramatic. I still have to top stitch the collar, finish attaching the sleeves, sew up the right pocket and side, press, hem, decide on a zipper or laces….there’s a lot to be done.
I have hit a snag however. I had something like 4 yards of this lovely lip-cord, which after rough measuring I decided to use on the sleeve edges. By my initial, again I’ll say rough, measurement, I was supposed to have an extra 2 feet leftover…..Well that did not happen. Four yards in I ran out of lip cord only 7 inches shy of my finish line. I could pretend it’s in an inconspicuous place: the front of the armpit of the right sleeve is currently bare. So right now I’m looking for a similar lip cord and entertaining interesting applique and tassel ideas to make a fun decoration out of the mishap. I will go back to the warehouse where I got the cord and try my luck at finding more, but this is unlikely as it was a remnant from an independent supplier, not a chain. I hate undoing mistakes in sewing, so I’m not going to take off all the cord. Nope, not happening.
