Whipped up this new belly dance belt a few days before a performance to match this bra that I made a few years(?) ago. I had plenty of extra fabric lying around from the bra top, a super comfortable performance stretch.
The pattern was simple enough: a rounded triangle essentially, measuring 30 inches wide. I sewed a front and lining wrong-sides-together, flipped and top-stitched. Next I sewed two sets of polyester ties on the back side using a button-hole-stitch, then I melted the raw edges with a lighter.
I added fringe to the bottom which I’ve been hoarding for an occasion like this for years, then I disassembled large coin necklaces purchased off of eBay and and-sewed them to the belt.
The last fun detail are the two utility clips on the front bottom, which I hope you didn’t really notice until now. I used these clips in performance to attach a small purse to so that I could carry my zills on my person and quickly put them on between songs. It’s also very handy to have a purse option to carry a cell phone or wallet while waiting in a costume with no pockets.
