Last week I posted a disastrous attempt at sewing the internet popular bento bags using a very bad tutorial also found online. After contemplating all my errors and doing more research, I found a better tutorial and made a much better bento bag.
The tutorial is as follows in the illustration below, which is not mine, and written directions can be found here.
I like that this bag is lined, eliminating the need to finish edges. I was tired of making small test bags, so I went full size with my first attempt, and it paid off.
What I don’t like about this bag is that it’s not reversible.
For once, I don’t have a lot to say about this project. I feel like I got all of my feelings about the bags out in last week’s post. But I am very happy that this iteration turned out so much better. I used the bag around Beltane to transport a large batch of jello-shot-Easter-eggs to a party. When the party was done, I threw the bag in the laundry—total functionality FTW.
The lining makes this bag exceptionally sturdy, but the knotted handle still limits carrying options. It’s best suited to carrying loose items like produce, Tupperware, or treasures. Check back next week when I’ll be experimenting with how to make the same bag, lined, reversible, and using one-third the fabric.
