This shirt was a learning experience and an adventure. I am no expert in men’s tailoring and Jake had some very specific requests for this former curtain found at a local Saver’s.
He spied the curtain amidst other discounted second-hand fabrics and I told him that there was enough there for a shirt. But enough to line up the pattern? Maybe. We spent about a day patterning, aligning the embroidery as best we could, and cutting out the pieces. Several weeks to follow I slowly pieced together the shirt. I couldn’t make much progress without continuous fittings, and as I mentioned in my last post, Jake can’t always be available for 1 million fittings. This shirt directly inspired the need for a body form for Jake.
It is nothing if not a unique shirt. Standing collar, a separating sports zipper in the front, cuffs and baggy sleeves. Pictured here on my dress form it looks over-sized and slightly ridiculous. You can see the shirt worn on the proper body in my post on this year’s Winter Renaissance Fair.
