I am sewing a lot. I love it. Here is another piece that I whipped up in an afternoon using a sari that was gifted to me by a friend.
The sari had such beautiful boarders that I didn’t want to cut off or disturb, and the only pattern I know for a dress that leaves the entire width of the fabric intact is this Game of Thrones Essos style dress. I have made this dress once before for my handmaiden Game of Thrones Cosplay, so it was even easier to whip up the dress a second time.
The design calls for a long tube of fabric, the full width of the bolt, with channels sewn into the top for a rope neck strap. On my original version of this dress I did one channel in the back, but this time I did two to give it a low scoop-back.
Belted the dress becomes flattering and feminine, but un-belted it is regal and wild. This very breezy, open design is perfect for a hot summer fair day, the beach, or a whimsical special occasion. Easy to make, easy to wear. It looks amazing in the breeze because there is so much fabric for the wind to capture. The pattern can easily be altered to include more or less fabric, depending on its weight, to give it a more moderate or lavish look.
