We Do A Lot of Dreaming

I’m back! It’s been a long time since my last post because life has been very busy happening. Those of you who have checked in before might know that Jake and I bought a house at the end of last year. It was a very scary and joyful experience and obviously a really big change for both of us. We are all moved in now, but far from settled. We have a million different projects going around the house and I have a dozen home-improvement blog posts started, but still none of them ready to share. Home improvement takes a really long time! All of this energy going towards caring for our new home has meant less time, temporarily, to devote to making the art and crafts that I find so relaxing. But, I’ve started to get back into it starting with the meditative process of weaving a dream-catcher.

Hanging macramé wall art has been pretty prominent in my news feeds and targeted advertisements right now, so fine, they got me interested. But not to buy; these things are so easy to make. This very quick project used all materials that I had on hand in my newly unpacked craft room (except the metal macramé ring, which I ordered on amazon). The simple act of wrapping twine felt really good for my hands and even better for my head. I used natural twine, wooden beads of varying size and color, dyed feathers, tassels from an old pillow, and some giant foam keys that I bought for a dollar years ago on clearance, never really knowing when they’d come in handy.

The dream-catcher is now on display in my craft room, bringing great warm-up energy to the space where I will be creating for years to come. I have enough macramé rings to make 9 more wall pieces, and I tend to get really fixated on a particular look until I’ve flushed out the full idea, so, maybe I’ll make a dream catcher for each room of the house!
