Last night I finished another commission piece! It’s a Sophie Hatter cosplay dress, a character from the animated film Howl’s Moving Castle.
I’ve cosplayed as this character myself in the past, so this was my second time around making this dress. It’s a fairly simple design, with a very forgiving fit, so I was very comfortable taking the commission without ever measuring my client in person.
I’m very happy with how the dress came out. My new sewing machine was a dream for making button holes and sewing through several layers of fabric. Because I fully understood the construction of this dress better than almost any other garment I’ve made, I feel that I did a very nice job with the finishes. Practice makes perfect, right? Well, I’ve had a lot of practice with this particular dress.
The garment is a little big for my dress form, which has no butt. But the skirt will look great on some real hips with a slip or light petticoat. It even has pockets!! If you’d like a Sophie Hatter dress of your own, send me a message and I’ll give you a quote.
