Here is my first watercolor from this semester. I did not post it sooner because I was waiting to get it back from my professor so that I could scan it. Then winter break came along and I had all of this other work to post, and so this painting fell towards the back of the line.
For this assignment we had to paint any animal or insect, but compose its body out of fruits and vegetables. I have always felt a special connection to rodents. People tend to compare me to them because of my size and mannerisms. Weird, I know. But I do like rodents–I think they’re very cute. And so I decided to paint mice. I wanted them to be a little creepy, a little twitchy and crawly, but also kind of cute. I made their bodies out of beets, and their heads out of strawberries. They’re eyes are watermelon seeds, and their noses are green pepper seeds. Finally, their little limbs are white bean sprouts. -oh and this is an edit, but I forgot to mention that their ears are parsley leaves.
This painting was all about texture and learning to build up my colors darkly and opaquely. Overall I think it came out pretty good for my first fully developed watercolor painting.
