I like working in series! I have an obsessive personality, and when I get on an idea I like to work through it until I am utterly sick of that subject matter. Fortunately, I never stay sick of anything and eventually my creativity will catch up with me and I will think of new ways to revisit anything.
But anywho, for this series, I decided to work with treasure…oooo. Or at least things that are treasures to me. I wanted to add value and draw attention to the possessions that I consider treasures by drawing them. I chose to work in oil pastels because of the rich colors that they produce. Back in high school, oil pastels were one of my favorite mediums to work in, but I haven’t used them since. I wanted to produce a real glow in these drawings and depict the items from such a perspective that the viewer would feel a sense of discovery.
These drawings are 8×11″ done on 9×12″ paper.
All of the objects are grouped the same way that they are displayed in my room, though the exact positions of the objects may have been changed in order to create a composition more suitable for a two-dimensional surface.
