This semester, as part of my illustration major, I am taking a course in watercolors. I have dealt with watercolors in the past, but this course will go into a whole new level of technique and detail for me. It’s been a few years since I’ve touched a watercolor set, and when I used to paint with them, I would use them to do landscape sketches or fill in pen and ink drawings with color. My professor is a really amazing watercolor artist, and I know from a previous class with him that he is a very thorough teacher.
After getting our supplies–which were SOOO EXPENSIVE D:!!!–we spent a class period practicing with the paint a little bit. We did this color-study sheet to help us understand what the colors look like, get a sense of how much we have to mix, what colors do next to other colors, how to make neutrals, and so on. Don’t they look yummy? I’m excited to work in color again! I was always really good at color matching. I see and think in color much more naturally than I do in black and white. We’re getting our first assignment on Thursday.
