All About Hair Straighteners

Style and appearance are very important. We can all agree on that right? That people judge you first by how you look, and then by what you do. Hair cut and style is included as a facet of someone’s appearance. Hair can make a person look put together or sporty or effortlessly beautiful… or frumpy. Well, my hair straighten broke a few weeks ago and I’ve been sporting a pony-tail and borrowing my suit mate’s straightener for too long. I’m ready to buy a new one. But I know that not all straighteners are created  equal. That’s why I’ve decided to look into, and do a post about hair straighteners.

I’d like to take this moment to say good-bye to my red “Fusion Tools” Digital straightener. It really was a great purchase. It was marked down at Marshalls and lasted me almost 4 years. It heated up to 400 degrees and never gave me any problems…until the day it wouldn’t turn on.

So. We’ve got our “Sedu’s” and our “Chi’s” and our “Solia’s”. All going for more than $100 dollars and getting great ratings. But they’re so expensive! What are my alternatives?

I took a look on Wikipedia to see how hair straighteners work, and it’s pretty simple. Two hot metal plates + ceramic coating sprayed and baked on in layers = the best hair straighteners. Cheaper models without ceramics cause more damage and layers of paint are used to imitate ceramic but will wear off and cause great damage! I also know that the shorter your hair is, the thinner you want your plates to be because it’s easier then to get down to the roots and control the shape of the hair as you straighten. Thicker plates are cool for long hair because it will shorten the time it takes you to straighten your hair because you can cover more ground with a larger plate.

So…Conair sells som pretty cheap straighteners that you can pick up at a CVS even….do they work? This model goes for $18!! O_O

I don’t know…I seem to remember one of my hair dressers telling me that you get what you pay for when it comes to this stuff. I don’t know if I’m comfortable taking a chance on it….

Perhaps, another middle-of-the-road ceramic straightener will do for me. Because I don’t want to pay either extreme. Not too expensive nor too cheap.

There’s a lot of information out there on google but I don’t feel that very much of it is reliable….happy hunting….
